As we slowly meander in to spring, dreaming of warmer days and lighter nights, we are super excited to see the incoming trends for interior design over the coming spring and summer seasons. Including cutting edge botanicals, beautiful brights, stunning sorbets, and lush rich textures, 2018 is definitely the year to invest in a new interior look.
The botanical trend involves tropical chic, elegant exoticism, call it what you will but palm prints and colonial style are big news for SS18 trends. And, Harlequins new collection ‘Zapara’ take you straight there in mind and soul.
Brights, sorbets, metals and ultraviolet are at the forefront of the colour charts in interiors at the moment, with ultraviolet being named the Pantone colour of the year for 2018. Bold pops of bright colour including; burnt orange, peacock blue, tomato reds, and jade greens will be seen everywhere this season from fashion to interiors. The sorbet trend is a glamorous take on the ice cream palette, with dashes of sequins and sparkles. The combination of blush/grey and lilac tones with metallic and shimmering finishes offers a modern feel, and brings with it a balance of sophistication and vibrancy.
The influx of metal tones are huge this season, with industrial shades from nickel, copper, brushed brass & bronze all proving to be big news. The key is to mix them all up and use them together, and remember that less high shine materials add a more organic element to your space. Brass is particularly popular at the moment especially in bathrooms, think brass taps & showerheads being the height of fashion!
There’s a Navajo trend base-lining the coolest of homes this spring, visualise sunset hues, soothing aqua shades, rustic luxe materials and a riot of rich patterns; this style design is for the bold and adventurous.
Scandi interior design has been around for many years now, yet this coming season we see the brand new Nordic theme ‘Scandi Noir’ taking a modern spin with a darker and more moody pallet. This is the epitome of pared back style, renowned for its light-woods and pale colour palette, which has been turned on its head with moody hues. Focus on dark oak, mahogany and walnut to add a new depth to your space.
Textures, terazzo, and decorative statement ceilings are here for the foreseeable and we love them. Starting with prominent textures like leather and velvet, your soft furnishings and bedrooms will never be the same again, think upholstered headboards and quilted chairs and you’ve hit the nail on the head.
Terazzo was seriously cool in the 70’s and has returned with a vengeance this year, terazzo are some of the most colourful floor tiles around and instantly add an incredible edge to any room. And, from the floor to the ceiling, decorative statement ceilings are a must for any serious interiors revamp.
Treat your ceiling like a fifth wall and make it a feature in itself with tin tiles, wood panels, dark and moody, metallics, industrial – whatever you feel but make it stand out by even using concrete effects or bold wallpapers.
We are head over heels with the spring and summer styles for interior design in 2018 and hope you are too!
