'Keo's' Winebar - Leicester
Brief
We were commissioned at the early stages of renovation of a scruffy, student bar in Leicester, creating it's transformation into a 'Trendy Winebar' serving 'Lite Bites and Cocktails'.
It needed to be light and brignt with colourful funky furniture and lots of seating areas for people to lounge and socialise for the evening.
Approach
Initially we had to completely redesign the whole layout of the bar. We opened up the conservatory space to the garden by installing a whole wall of glass doors which, not only flooded the whole bar with light, but enabled people to get to the outside area, not possible with the original layout.
We created a new VIP area where the pool room used to be, to give the bar an exclusive feel. We created a dining area to accommodate people enjoying food at lunchtime and redesigned the whole bathroom area with a look that was not only very smart but very contemporary. A contractor was appointed to do the building work and we project managed the whole process. Our colour palette was black and cream with strong accents of red to lift the scheme and add touches of vibrance. This was used to great effect in the furniture which we sourced from Italy. The furniture had to be very stylised and modern but needed to conform to rigid UK fire regulations and rub tests as required with this type of commercial project.
The colour palette was complimented by sanding and waxing the existing
solid oak floors in the main bar area.
Elsewhere black slate was laid to the floor and all the walls were painted in an off white colour to keep it light and show off the architecture and striking design of furniture bought for this project.
Result
Keo's newly refurbished bar was re-launched to a party of 300 'invite only' guests just before Chirstmas 2006. Fantastically well received the bar has a number of feature articles both in local press and magazines. The owners are now in the process of opening up a Thai restaurant in an adjoining part of the building so they can offer food in the evenings and hopefully keep customers with them all night!
